Online File Storage [Dropbox]

What is an online file storage?
It is a 24/7 online repository of your files in a super huge server space, wherein you can access it wherever you are or whenever you want. Some of the online file storage service are Google Drive, iSync, and Dropbox.

Dropbox as an "Online File Storage"

Dropbox is one of the many online file storage service provider, and one of the best, Dropbox has been working hard to provide their user with the best service they can have.

Dropbox can handle your files safe, neat, and easy for you, whether it is a  .doc, .jpg, or .mpeg Dropbox fits for it.

Dropbox uses the latest trend of updating and backing up your files, just download the application on their website and install it in you pc, then you will have a dropbox local folder located in your local hard disk, now all of the things that you put in it are synchronize to your online Dropbox account, in that manner your files are automatically backed-up with no messy "Click Upload" thing with your mouse, or attaching your files in an email and saving it as a draft -or you can send it if thats what you do-, it does auto sync. What's nice with this idea is that by the time your computer's hard disk get its "Dead"-line, your files are safe on your online Dropbox account, it's backed-up. And by the time that you just happened to be in something like "Oh no! My flashdrive, where is it?!", Dropbox is there to save you.

Handle Files with Care Please
Dropbox has its nice way of handling your pictures, they provide you with a folder named "Photos" you can put all your pictures in this folder, all the photos you intended to keep safe or share. When you create a folder in this "Photos" folder, Dropbox creates another gallery of photos in your online account too and will provide you with a link where you can view or share your pictures online, plus a slideshow for you to enjoy watching.

Dropbox handle video files in a nice way too, you can watch your videos online or share it to someone using the link that Dropbox will give you.

Dropbox can handle your audio files for sharing or if you just wanna listen to it. When you updload your audio files, Dropbox provides you with another link again, so that you can access your audio files through a link and be able to listen to it wherever you are, or if you want to share it to some, like sharing your audio/music files on facebook.

Other files are handled through zipping when you want to share or download your files.

The Teamates, Coworkers and Colleagues
With Dropbox it's also about sharing your files for collaborative work with your teammates or coworkers. Dropbox lets you do sharing of folders with other Dropbox users or non-Dropbox users, these two are handled differently. For Dropbox users, when they do sharing of folders, all of the people included in the sharing circle will have a copy in their Dropbox account, so that when one of their teamates or coworkers updates a file, everyone gets a copy of that updated file too, now that's real time collaborative work. With non-Dropbox user, they will just have the access through links, although files are updated too.

Never too late to retrieve the "Deleted Ones"
Dropbox actually has the ability to restore your deleted files on your online account, when you actually deleted it when it happens not to be, and Dropbox can restore some previous versions of your files. It's just that, it's never too late to retrieve the deleted ones, wew.

Dropbox as your friendly "File Host-er"
Dropbox can actually host your public files, if you want it to be available to your friends or public. Dropbox provides you a "Public" folder, and all the files in this folder has their respective public link which you can use to provide a download link to others. If you happend to be having a website and you want to host your files for your visitors, you can use Dropbox's public folder, just a little tweak on the html codes and you can provide your visitors with the download link.

Dropbox! "Security Guards" please

Security is a big factor to consider when talking about cyber affairs. Dropbox has a dedicated team who works hard to keep the files in their servers safe and sound. An important thing to note is that, Dropbox employees has no way to get into your files except it be when it demands that it should be, like offering customer support, but I think before they access your files they are bound to ask you for your permission first.

Dropbox says that;
  • Dropbox uses modern encryption methods to both transfer and store your data.
  • Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and AES-256 bit encryption.
  • Dropbox website and client software are constantly being hardened to enhance security and protect against attacks.
  • Two-step verification is available for an extra layer of security at login. You can choose to receive security codes by text message or via any Time-Based One-Time Password (TOTP) apps, such as those listed here.
  • Public files are only viewable by people who have a link to the file(s).

  • With Dropbox, is all about your safety and your files safety. So why not try Dropbox its safe plus its free!

[DROPBOX TIP] How to send Large files on the web

Greeting of Peace to you humm'er.

Sending large file on the web can be free, there's a way you do not need to pay anything to host your large files and be able to send it to your recipient/s. If ever you want to send a large file to someone, use Dropbox service, it is free for regular members but if you want to expand the storage space you can opt to pay for it. With Dropbox what you need to do is just to paste the file/s on your Dropbox's Public folder then send the public link that is assigned by Dropbox to your file/s after the uploading process.

Here's how to do it step by step,
    1. Register in Dropbox here.(If you want to expand your dropbox storage capacity just leave your referal link on the comment box and I will include it in this post, I had reached the maximum capacity already.)
    2. Download then Install the software.
    3. Copy the file you want to send.
    4. Go to your Dropbox's Public folder on your local hard drive.
    5. Paste your file in the Public folder, and wait for the upload to be done, you will know that the uploading process is done when the blue circling logo on the file you selected turn to a green checked one.
    6. When the uploading process is done, right click your file, select "Dropbox" from the pop up menu, then select "Copy public link".
    7. Now send the public link to your recipient via whatever means you have, whether it is through email, private message on Facebook/Twitter, etc..

Be aware, that the files availability depends upon "you", if you deleted that file in your Dropbox account, that file won't be available anymore for download. Be sure that if you are going to remove it, your recipient/s have it downloaded already, or else they will see a 404 error saying that the page could not be found.

Just to be sure, Audio files and Video files are not bound in this tutorial, the recipient won't be able to download it in this manner,  instead you need to zip/rar/compress the Audio/Video files first before pasting it in the Public folder of your Dropbox folder in your local hard disk.

[Facebook Trick] How to share Audio Lectures/Music in Facebook

    Greetings of peace.

In this post I want to share to you what I figured out in facebook.

I can actually share my music/audio files and be able to play it.

    I'll show you how.

    Here's how to do it.

First thing you need to do is to have a dropbox account,
    Register me to dropbox!
It won't take much of your time registering, since I joined dropbox I never left it, trust me, these guys are cool and nice.

If you are curious about dropbox I'll show you a video tour about dropbox. Just do not forget to
    Register in dropbox here.

After registering, you need to download and install their software for you to enjoy using their service, the software is for the sole purpose of syncing your files on your local folder to your online storage account in dropbox.

After installation you will notice that dropbox made a folder in you computer (but be sure you know where you set the dropbox folder's destination during the installation process.).

If in case you can't find it, do not panic, look at the dropbox icon on the right side of your start menu bar, just right click it and select "Open Dropbox folder", your dropbox folder should appear in a window.

After you know where your dropbox folder is, you will notice that the folders have a small green circle with a check sign, this means that all files inside the folder are correctly synced on your online storage account.

When you see a small blue circle having a circling return arrow sign it means that the Dropbox software is syncing your files to your online storage account in Dropbox.
Everything you put inside in these folders will be automatically synced in your online storage account in Dropbox (This is the reason why I love dropbox.), you don't need to monitor its uploading process, just drop the files and dropbox software will do the uploading stuff and you can continue with what you're doing, so just sit there and relax and do not worry about having your uploading process to be interrupted, even if the upload isn't done yet and you want to close your computer you do not need to worry about the uploading process, just go ahead shutdown your computer the upload will automatically resume the next time you turn on your computer until dropbox software finished uploading your files. Now isn't that cool?

Now for you to share your audio/music to facebook.

In your dropbox folder you will see a folder named "Public", just paste the audio/music into this folder, and wait for the upload process to finish.

Once it's done, you need to right click the audio/music you pasted on your "Public" folder and select "Dropbox" and then select "Copy public link".

    Notice:
Before you start sharing your audio file in facebook, please be sure that the audio file is done uploading, if you have a slow internet connection, it might take a while or longer before you can start to share the audio file,  if you start sharing the audio file while it is still not yet done uploading, the audio file that you shared on facebook will not play, instead the link will direct you to an error message of " Error (404) ".
Again, please be sure that the audio file is done uploading before sharing it to facebook.

Once copied, access your facebook account and on the facebook status tab, paste the public link and click post. Facebook will post the link to your audio/music file on your profile and news feeds of your friends, and when they click the link, they will be directed to a new page with the audio/music player of Dropbox. Same thing when you wanna share directly to your friend's timeline, just copy the public link and post it in their timeline.

But please observe rules and correct attitudes in sharing your files. Fear God so that we may be Successful.
Peace and Blessings of God be upon the Messengers of God and upon us all.
